The husband-and-wife team AL PETTEWAY AND AMY WHITE combine elements of Celtic, classical, New Age, blues and funk for an intoxicating musical blend. Performing on acoustic guitars, mandolin, piano, Irish bouzouki and world percussion, they create a sound and synergy uniquely their own, as unclassifiable as it is enchanting. Their new duo CD, Gratitude, was released this fall, joining their critically acclaimed duo debut, Racing Hearts, and their six previous solo CDs. Between them, Al and Amy have won over 40 Washington Area Music Association WAMMIE Awards and three Governor's Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council. Legendary singer-songwriter Tom Paxton calls them "Two of the most purely musical people I know," and the Kennedy Center praises their "Elegant musicianship...their rich melodies and intricately textured arrangements evoke magic and mystery."

A founding member of the renowned acoustic world-music trio Helicon and an alumnus of trailblazing Celtic groups The John Whelan Band and Greenfire, ROBIN BULLOCK is a virtuoso performer on 6- and 12-string guitars, cittern, mandolin, fiddle and piano, and is recognized as one of the few musicians who can so successfully blend the ancient airs and dance tunes of the Celtic lands with the roots music traditions of the "New World." His credits include three Washington Area Music Association WAMMIE Awards and the Association for Independent Music's prestigious INDIE Award (1999 Seasonal Recording of the Year, with Helicon), and the summer of 2000 saw the release of his fourth solo CD, The Lightning Field. Classical Guitar magazine calls him "A musician whose technical skill and stylistic expertise are second to none...To say he's good at what he does is an understatement," and Guitar Player magazine simply calls his work "Breathtaking." A longtime Baltimorean, Robin now lives in Paris, France, making these concerts a rare opportunity for Baltimore-Washington area fans.

The show is hosted by our own Doug Goodhill, with Snooze, gregor, Johnny and the crew.

Lisa Moscatiello Recipe for Hober:
Puttanesca Sauce

Take a couple tablespoons of olive oil and throw it in a pan. Cut or press about 5 (or more) cloves of garlic over it. Add 15 pitted gaeta or kalamata olives. Toss in a small jar of capers. Simmer until everything starts to wilt. Chop up the contents of a 16 oz can of peeled tomatoes, or peel and cut some fresh ripe non-hydroponic tomatoes. Put these in the pan and let it simmer until it looks like sauce. Best served the next day, or several hours after cooking so it gets really garlicky. It's more liquidy and delicate than normal tomato sauce, but it's tangy and great!
