With Special Guests:
Hokum Jazz
Performing vintage blues, jazz and swing from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Members
JC Veve, Esther Haynes and Nevada Newman take turns singing as the band Hokum Jazz performs great harmonies to a wide range of swing guitar songs from artists like Billie Holiday, Emmett Miller, Django Reinhardt, Blind Arthur Blake, W.C. Handy, Bessie Smith, Hank Williams Sr., Louis Armstrong, and Memphis Minnie.
It all started in October of 99 when vocalist Esther Haynes began coming down to sit in with the Resonators weekly gig at the Grog and Tankard. They had been doing mostly country blues stuff, but were dabbling in the hot jazz bag since discovering Django Reinhardt. Esther would later play guitar and the infamous 6-string banjo that adorns the music of the Resonators CD.
About this time Esther began work on her own solo CD and recruited the Resonators as well as a handful of some great jazz players to participate in the project. It was during this time that the trio developed a decent repertoire and the band Hokum Jazz really began to gel.
