With Special Guests: Cucanandy
Cucanandy (Koo-Kun-NAHN-Dee) is an exciting new Celtic band from North Carolina that brings its own unique blend of songs, tunes and traditional percussive dance to our concert hall. Cucanandy's bright tapestry of sounds springs from the inherent energy of Celtic traditional music, drawing on a repertoire and style from Ireland, Cape Breton, and Scotland, but also finding inspiration in the music from Brittany, French Canada and North Carolina. Step dance and Flatfoot rhythms are integrated into the band's arrangements of tunes, songs and mouth music, providing both intriguing visual and aural components to the show. Band members Mike Casey (flute, guitar), Malke Rosenfeld (percussive dance, flute), Stephanie Johnston (vocals, guitar, bodhran), and Jason Cradle (fiddle, mandolin). In addition to learning from the living traditions of their home state, North Carolina, they have learned from master teachers in Ireland, Cape Breton, and Brittany. All have deep repeat for the traditions that they have spent decades learning and honing.
